Worried about Ho Chi Minh City’s notorious traffic? Just turn on the radio and you’ll know which way to go.
Voice of HCMC (VOH) on Monday officially launched the first on-air program on traffic congestion, which will provide listeners with information about ongoing congestion in HCMC.
The live program will be broadcast five times a day on FM 99.9 MHz.
VOH said the traffic reports will be provided by taxi drivers stuck in congested streets.
The VOH will then phone in the information to traffic police. It is also planning to call on the contribution of residents in more than 50 areas “most likely to have congestion” by calling to its hotline.
In another move, HCMC People’s Committee has asked the Department of Planning and Investment to reconsider licensing businesses located in the frequently congested streets.
According to the HCMC Traffic Safety Committee, the city had an estimated 61 large traffic jams between January and October, tripling the number for 2007. In October alone, there were 12 traffic jams lasting from four to nine hours each.
