Consultant: Mekong express railway to cost $10 bln
Saigon Times Weekly

Construction costs for the express railway from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho will come close to US$10 billion, or more than double what has been reported by local media, according to feasibility study consulting firm Chungsuk, from South Korea.

The duo-route link will see trains running at speed of 200kph, cutting travel time between the two cities by over four hours, to around one hour.

The 191km-long route will start at HCMC’s Hoa Hung Station for passengers and Binh Duong Province’s An Binh Station for cargo; ending at Cai Rang Station in Can Tho.

The high-speed railways will cross the Tien, Hau and Vam Co Dong Rivers before ascending to a flyover for the rest of the Mekong Delta section to avoid floods, according to Chungsuk’s report.

The HCMC-Can Tho leg is part of the trans-viet express railway route from Hanoi - HCMC - Can Tho before finishing at the southernmost province of Ca Mau. The total length is 1,570km long, at an earlier estimated cost of US$33-38 billion.
