Another shark netted in central Vietnam
Tuoi Tre

A shark was caught Friday near a beach where several people were reported to be attacked by an unidentified creature early this year in the central province of Phu Yen.

The 450 kilogram shark is 2.7 meters long and has a 0.5 meter jaw, according to Tran Van Duc, the fisherman who netted the shark.

Duc said it took him two hours to tow the shark ashore.

Local authorities did not determine if it was the one that attacked at least three people in Quy Nhon in January.

It is the second shark that has been caught by fishermen in the waters of Phu Yen.

On Feb 4, a one-ton and five-meter shark was caught by a fisherman in Song Cau town.

Authorities had announced a reward of VND10 million (US$541) for the capture of the unidentified creature that locals blame for attacking at least 10 people since last July.

The three latest attacks were reported in mid-January when three people were bitten in the arm while swimming in the waters off Quy Nhon beach.

Two of them had to have their wounds stitched in hospital.

None of the victims saw the animal clearly, but suspect it was a shark given its huge size.

The first shark caught was a great white shark which is very unusual for that region. This one appears to be bull shark which are common in tropical waters.
