Vietnam will continue to nurture its time-honored friendship and strategic partnership with India, National Assembly leader Nguyen Phu Trong has said.
Trong, who is on a four-day visit to New Delhi that will conclude Friday, told Indian president Pratibha Patil Thursday that Vietnam is willing to work as a bridge for India to strengthen ties with the Association of Southeast Asia (ASEAN) Nations, facilitating the implementation of India’s “Look East” policy.
Vietnam always attaches importance to its ties with India, which has played an important role in the world, he further stated.
His visit is aimed at deepening the strategic bilateral partnership in all fields for mutual benefit and peace and prosperity in the region and world at large, he said.
Patil hailed the signing of the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement, saying India seeks to expand relations with ASEAN members, especially Vietnam, as part of its “Look East” policy.
Both sides agreed to increase bilateral trade turnover to US$3 billion this year from $2.5 billion in 2009.
