Vietnam Airlines Tuesday commenced its direct service between Hanoi and Yangon City, Myanmar’s economic hub and former capital.
The national flag carrier will use 79-seat Fokker 70 aircrafts to operate four weekly one-way flights on the route on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Return airfares between the two destinations are set at VND4.62 million (US$248.38).
Vietnam Airlines will offer the promotional rate of VND950,000 ($51) for return flights on the Hanoi - Yangon route scheduled from April 1 to June 10 for Vietnamese travelers to mark the opening of the route.
The promotional tickets will be available for booking from March 15 to 25.
The biggest carrier of Vietnam plans to expand its service on the route to five flights a week using Airbus A320 aircrafts, which can carry 150 to 164 passengers a time, from winter this year.
Vietnam Airlines has targeted to serve 11 million passengers this year, up 18 percent from 2009.
Vietnam is the sixth country offering direct flights to Myanmar after Thailand, Singapore, India, Malaysia and China.
