A 30-second clip and a documentary promoting Vietnam’s tourism will hit the airwaves in China for the first time this year to attract visitors from one of the largest markets for the country’s inbound tourism sector.
They will be broadcast on China’s national television channel and other channels from Chinese provinces of Sichuan, Chongqing and Hubei, according to the travel department under the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).
The national tourism body is planning to promote the country’s image once a day during three consecutive days on the Chinese national channel and three times a day during one month on the other three provincial channels.
The travel department is also inviting professional companies to create the tourism advertisement and the 15-minute documentary for the publicity program, The Saigon Times Daily reported.
VNAT last year organized two tourism promotion programs across some of major cities and provinces in China, including Shanghai, Henan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Sichuan, Chongqing and Wuhan.
The number of Chinese arrivals to Vietnam reached its peak in 2004 with 778,000 arrivals.
But the figure has been following a downward trend with only 582,000 Chinese travelers visiting the country last year, down 18 percent from 2008.
Tourism authorities last year also signed contracts to have Vietnam’s tourism image promoted on the international television channels of CNN and BBC.
