Vietnamese win honors in global photo contests
Tuoi Tre

Vietnamese photographers beat contestants from 41 countries to win a world cup and five other medals at two contests the International Federation of Photographic Art held recently in Vietnam.

They won the world cup in the under-16 category at the 32nd Youth Print Biennial FIAP competition in addition to a gold medal and a bronze medal in the 16-21 category.

At the 30th Black and White Biennial FIAP competition, a set of 10 black and white photos titled “Vuot Kho” (Overcoming difficulties) by 10 Vietnamese photographers won a gold medal in the team category.

Scotland won the World Cup, the highest award, while Australia and Ukraine won the silver and bronze medals.

Vietnam also triumphed in the individual category with a gold medal for Pham Thi Thu’s “Di Chung Da Cam” (Agent Orange after-effects) and a bronze medal for Nguyen Dinh Quoc Van’s “Yeu Thuong” (Love).

This year’s competition attracted 420 digital works.

The two events were organized by the FIAP, the Fine Art, Photography and Exhibition Department, and the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists to mark the 30th FIAP Congress to be held in Hanoi in August.

The contests were judged by a jury of five members, two from Vietnam and one each from Singapore, Switzerland, and China.

The award-winning entries will be on show at the Vietnam Center for Culture and Art in Hanoi from August 1 to 8.

The FIAP is an international federation made up of 85 national photography associations and nearly one million individual photographers.
