Iimuro Naoki, one of Japan’s top contemporary mime actors, will perform four shows in Hanoi and the central city of Hue next month.
The award-winning artist’s solo performance titled “Iimuro Naoki Mime Solo Act: Time of Mime” will be part of the Vietnamese capital’s 1000th anniversary celebration and the biennial Hue Festival. The shows are organized by the Japan Foundation.
In Hanoi the free shows will be at the Youth Theater on June 2 and 3, and in Hue, at the Royal Theater on June 6 and 7.
Naoki’s performances will include nine short episodes, entitled “Prologue,” “Fly,” “Angel,” “A Life of Frog,” and “Escape” in which the artist will use his body language and a range of different facial expressions to entertain local audiences and convey the depth of the stories.
Naoki learned mime, the art of acting out a story through body motions, without the use of speech, from acclaimed French mime actor Marcel Marceau, the founder of modern pantomime.
Last year he won the gold medal in the mime improvisation section at the Delphic Games in South Korea and a special prize in street performance competition at the Festival Kobe Biennale in Japan.
Tickets to the shows are available at Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam at 27, Quang Trung Street, Hanoi.
