Three American hip-hop artists are holding a series of performances and workshops in Vietnam under a cultural exchange program organized by the US government to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral ties.
The Cultural Envoy Program is being held from May 9 to 22 by the US Department of State with assistance from the Ho Chi Minh City consulate.
Breakdancer Brandon Albright aka “Peace,” rapper Chen Lo, and DJ Kyle Clinton will organize a workshop in Hanoi until Wednesday, followed by a concert with local hip-hop groups Friday.
They will also perform in Hai Phong on May 13 and arrive in Ho Chi Minh City to conduct a workshop for hip-hop artists and enthusiasts on May 17 and 18.
At the workshop, the artists would trace the development of hip-hop in the US and give demonstrations, The Saigon Times Daily reported.
Around 35 local dancers, rappers, and DJs will take part in the event to be held at the HCMC Dance School.
The program will continue with a similar workshop at the Can Tho Cultural Center May on 20 and 21.
Under the Cultural Envoy Program, the Department of State sends performing and visual artists, arts managers, and educators abroad to conduct workshops and seminars and deliver lectures on films, intellectual property rights, video arts, sculpture, painting, and cultural preservation and heritage.
