French jazzman to hit Hanoi with improvisations
Compiled by Hong Nguyen

French composer and pianist Yvan Robilliard will present a night of jazz music at the French Cultural Center, L’Espace, in Hanoi May 20.

The musician, known for his improvisational style, will perform works from “Intuitions,” an album he released this year.

Robilliard was born into a family of classical musicians in 1978 and began learning the piano at the age of four.

He won the first prize at the National Regional Conservatory of Lyon at the age of 15 and the first prize at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris four years later.

But it was in improvised music and composition that he found the freedom to shape his world.

In 2000 he won a gold medal in jazz at the Montreuil Conservatory and received a diploma in composition at the National School of Music of Paris two years later.

Robilliard released his first album in 2005.

Tickets to the show, costing VND100,000 (US$5.28), are available at the center at 24 Trang Tien Street.
