Singers, dancers to join fight against HIV
Compiled by Hong Nguyen

Rock and hip-hop artists from the US, Australia, Japan, the Philippines, China, and Vietnam will perform at a concert in Hanoi next month to raise funds for an HIV/AIDS project.

The 2010 CAMA Festival is organized by the Club for Art and Music Appreciation (CAMA) and Dance4life, an international initiative that uses music and dance to educate and mobilize people against HIV/AIDS.

This year’s concert, also known as the fourth Hanoi International Music Festival, will raise money for Dance4life programs in Vietnam.

It will take place from 1pm to 11pm on May 8 at the American Club.

International artists to perform on the main stage include US band Dengue Fever, Japan’s Molice quartet, Chinese surf-punk sensation Queen Sea Big Shark, Australian duo Red Bantoo, and Filipino rock group Up Dharma Down.

They will be joined by Vietnam’s own rock groups Recycle and Ngu Cung, MC Kim, and breakdancing troupe Big Toe.

DJs Spikey Tee, Jase, and Si Fixion of Australia and locals JD Minh Tri, electronic artist Vu Nhat Tan, and members of CAMA Sound System will entertain the crowd at the DJ tent.

There will be a variety of international foods and drinks on offer as well as games for adults and kids.

Vietnam has nearly 157,000 people with HIV, of whom around 34,400 have developed full blown AIDS. More than 44,000 have died of the disease.

Dance4life estimates that without extensive prevention efforts, more than 40,000 Vietnamese will contract HIV every year.

Last year’s event, the MAG Music festival, attracted 3,000 spectators and raised US$20,000 for the Mines Advisory Group, a non-military clearance organization operating in Vietnam.

Tickets are available from April 25 and cost VND200,000 ($10.55) if booked in advance and VND300,000 at the gate.
