HANOI - Vietnamese auto sales in February dropped 25 percent from a year before to 5,030 units, an industry report said on Wednesday, reflecting a week-long holiday during the month to mark the Tet or the Lunar New Year.

Sales in February were also worse than in January, when 6,961 vehicles were sold on the domestic market, a surge of 76 percent from January 2009, the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association said in a monthly report.

In 2009 the Lunar New Year came in January. Combined sales by 16 members of the association in the first two months of 2010 rose 13 percent from the same period last year to 11,991 units, the report said.

Consumers bought 4,020 cars from Japan's Toyota Motor Corp in the January-February period, a rise of 33.5 percent from a year before, which helped keep the Japanese car maker in the top seller's position.
