National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will start direct flights March 29 from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to China’s economic hub Shanghai.
The Hanoi service will be thrice weekly -- on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays – while there will be flights on the other four days from HCMC
The carrier will deploy 185-seat Airbus A321 aircraft on both routes.
It is offering a promotion for travel between April 1 and June 10, with round tickets for US$299 plus VAT, on both sectors.
Vietnam Airlines currently operates direct services from Vietnam to three Chinese destinations -- Beijing, Guangzhou, and Kunming.
The airline, which flies to 20 domestic and more than 40 international destinations, hopes to carry 11 million passengers this year, up 18 percent from 2009.
