Hanoi firms set to roll out 3G services
The Saigon Times Daily

EVN Telecom and Hanoi Telecom will jointly launch third generation (3G) telecom services Wednesday, becoming the fourth 3G service providers in Vietnam.

Along with VinaPhone, MobiFone, and Viettel, the two Hanoi-based firms were the first to get 3G licenses.

The technology allows mobile phone users to access advanced services like videophone, online video streaming, and high-speed Internet and music downloads.

The two companies would initially introduce basic services like video and mobile TV, Nguyen Thanh Hai, head of EVN Telecom Center’s southern operations, told The Saigon Times Daily.

They hope to attract one million subscribers within a year but have yet to announce their tariffs.

There are 14 million 3G subscribers in Vietnam out of a total of 129 million mobile phone users and eight service providers, the other three being GTel Mobile, S-Fone, Vietnamobile, and Cityphone, which offers services only in cities.
